A concert aria commissioned by The Norwegian Opera & Ballett for the singer Laura Mayer. The aria is based upon the traditional song with the same title.
I denne arien møter djevelen sin over-kvinne. Ratkje har hentet inspirasjon fra de mange variantene av balladen med samme tittel og gitt den å fortelle til historiens hovedperson, kvinnen som mannen gledelig sender til helvete, men som returnerer på grufullt vis. Dette er en lystig hevn-sang, på vegne av alle stakkarslige kvinneroller til alle tider.
In this aria, the devil meets his superior woman. Ratkje has taken inspiration from the many variations of the ballad of the same title and given it to the story’s protagonist, the woman whom the man happily sends to hell, but who returns in a horrific way. This is a cheerful revenge song, on behalf of all the pitiful female opera roles of all times.
