Programme note:
This composition is a reflection of the atmosphere and tonality found in the fifth movement of Olivier Messiaen’s wonderful piece “Quatour pour la fin du temps”. The intention was not to re-write his music, but rather an attemt to build something new. The harmonic structure may sometimes be recognized as from Messiaen’s music, but it is generally twisted and turned into new constellations. This piece is a re-writing of the IAWM price winning piece “Louange” for violin, cello and church organ which was a commission from the St. Olav Festival in Trondheim, Norway in 1999. The accordion has a different role than the organ part in the first piece. It is more virtuoso and blends more with the string instruments.
